NovaSOL® Curcumin vs Standard Turmeric Extract, Explained

Standard curcumin clumped and poorly absorbed versus NovaSOL micellar curcumin dispersed and well absorbed

NovaSOL® curcumin is a patented micellar form of curcumin. In a published human study, it reached 185× higher bioavailability (24-hour AUC) than standard curcumin extract.¹ In BMPHARMA's Licur Max and Licur 7000, each capsule provides 720 mg of NovaSOL® micellar solubilizate from Curcuma longa — including about 36 mg curcumin — taken once daily, with no piperine.

185× describes how much of the ingredient is absorbed — it is not a health claim. Curcumin carries no authorised EU health claims, and this page does not make any.

What NovaSOL® actually is

Plain curcumin absorbs poorly: it barely dissolves in water, is hard to take up from the gut, and is metabolised quickly.¹ NovaSOL® wraps curcumin in microscopic micelles, making it water-soluble and stable across a wide pH range — so more of it can reach the bloodstream.³ It is a delivery technology, not a different active.

What the human study found

A 2014 randomised study in Molecular Nutrition & Food Research (23 healthy adults) compared a 500 mg curcumin dose as standard extract, micronised powder, and NovaSOL® micelles:¹

Measure Standard curcumin NovaSOL® micellar
Bioavailability (24h AUC) baseline (1×) 185× higher
Peak blood level (Cmax) baseline 453× higher
Time to peak (Tmax) ~7.5 h ~1.1 h

These are pharmacokinetic (absorption) measurements only — not a health effect.

Why 720 mg is not 720 mg of curcumin

The 720 mg is the solubilizate — the micellar carrier plus the curcumin it holds. Per capsule that is about 43 mg curcuminoids, of which roughly 36 mg is curcumin. Because absorption is so much higher, BMPHARMA expresses one capsule as ≈ 6,600 mg standard turmeric equivalent — by curcumin absorption, not by raw weight. Comparing curcumin products by raw milligrams alone is misleading; the form decides how much actually gets in.

Does NovaSOL® need piperine?

No. Many turmeric products add piperine (black-pepper extract) to push absorption. NovaSOL®'s micellar formula provides bioavailability on its own, so Licur Max and Licur 7000 contain no piperine.¹ ³ If you take any medication, check the full composition and ask your doctor or pharmacist before supplementing — this page is not a statement about drug interactions.

  • Choose Licur 7000 for NovaSOL® curcumin plus vitamin D3 in one capsule. → View Licur 7000

Vitamin D in Licur 7000 contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to the maintenance of normal bones, teeth and muscle function.² (These authorised claims apply to the vitamin D in Licur 7000 only — not to curcumin, and not to Licur Max.)

Safety

Food supplements do not replace a varied, balanced diet. Do not exceed the recommended daily portion. Do not use if hypersensitive to any ingredient. If you use anticoagulants, consult a doctor or pharmacist. Licur 7000 is additionally not for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women. The micellar carrier is a polysorbate (E433); see the full composition on each product page.

FAQ

Is NovaSOL® the same as liposomal curcumin?

No. Both aim at better absorption, but they are different technologies — NovaSOL® is micellar. Licur is micellar, not liposomal.

How much curcumin is really in one capsule?

About 36 mg curcumin (≈43 mg curcuminoids) within 720 mg of NovaSOL® solubilizate.

Why is it sold as "6,600 mg equivalent"?

That reflects curcumin absorption versus standard turmeric — not the raw weight in the capsule.

Does Licur contain black pepper or piperine?

No.

Which Licur has vitamin D3?

Licur 7000 (7.8 µg). Licur Max has none.

Can I take Licur with blood thinners?

Ask your doctor or pharmacist first; both products carry that warning.
